WEDDING PLANNING Checklist
After many years of photographing weddings across the UK, we have compiled a list of things a Bride & Groom ought to consider when planning their wedding. These suggestions have been complied from years of experience and we hope they will help you have a stress free and happy wedding day. 18 months before your WEDDING date
- Set an initial budget for your wedding
- Are you having a theme wedding – choose it now
- If you are using a wedding planner contact one now
- Choose your Reception as popular venues get booked up to 2 years in advance
- Choose your WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER as good photographers get booked up to 2 years in advance
- Choose your Ceremony Venue as popular venues get booked up to 2 years in advance
12 months before your WEDDING date
- Arrange Wedding Insurance to cover for unforeseen events
- Meet with your priest , minister or celebrant
- For civil weddings & partnerships contact your local Registry Office
- Book music / entertainment
- Plan your honeymoon
- Search for a wedding gown or choose a designer / dressmaker
- Start your guest list
- Contact those to be your best man, groomsman, bridesmaids, flower girl and discuss arrangements
- Choose a caterer – get quotes from several
- Choose your hair and make-up artists and where you are getting ready on the wedding morning
6 months before your WEDDING date
- Contact and book florist
- Choose and order wedding cake
- Revisit your guest list update and amend
- Contact a hire company and reserve furniture / equipment if needed
- Organise gift registry
- Are you giving party favours to your guests? If so, start choosing now – these take time to organise
- Book accommodation for the wedding night
- Purchase / hire suits for groom, best man and groomsmen and organise bridesmaids and flower girls dresses
- Book wedding day transport
- Purchase your accessories – shoes, jewellery, stockings, veil and lingerie etc
- Order invitations
- Research accommodation for out-of-town guests
- Organise dance lessons for your first dance
- Discuss menu with your caterer
- Arrange your PRE-WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY Session with your photographer
- Prepare a schedule of your wedding day with timings, check this with venue and photographer
- Book your videographer
- Initial fitting for your wedding dress
- Book hen and stag events
3 months before your WEDDING date
- Purchase wedding rings
- Finalise guest list
- Write out invitations including wedding registry card
- Purchase accessories for wedding party
- Discuss readings / speeches with those chose to give them
- Meet with your photographer for your pre-wedding photography session & agree list of family portraits
- Advise out of town guest of local accommodation
- Check your passports are still valid
- Meet with your WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER for your pre-wedding photoshoot.
- Check you honeymoon booking and tickets
2 months before your WEDDING date
- Discuss the service with your minister / priest or celebrant
- Write your wedding vows
- Plan a trial hair and make-up session
- Check R.S.V.P.’s numbers and give to your caterer
- Finalise menu, order wine / beverages and have food tasting at your venue
- Draft a reception seating plan
- Purchase a guest book and arrange "SIGNATURE MOUNT" for guests to sign with your WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
- Check with your dress maker – all proceeding well and if needed arrange another fitting
- Apply to Register of Births, Deaths & Marriages for a marriage license
- Complete the appropriate paperwork if you are changing your name
- Schedule a rehearsal time
2 weeks before your WEDDING date
- Final dress fitting with shoes, accessories and lingerie
- Organise final fittings for groom, best man, groomsmen and bridesmaids
- Re-confirm all details with your service providers
- Finalise the reception seating plan and write place cards
- Having a photographer at preparations then confirm the time Bride & Groom are to be ready by
- Re-confirm appointment times for hair and make-up for bride and bridesmaids
- Confirm things that need doing after the wedding e.g.. returning hire equipment, hire suits,
taking care of the brides gown, removing and storing wedding gifts, distributing flowers from venue etc
- Ensure those giving speeches are preparing them. Give them time limits as meandering speeches can become boring
- Wear in your wedding shoes (both bride and groom, so no sore feet on the big day)
- Contact your Florist to finalise details for bouquets and church / reception flowers
- If you are having a hen or stag night, have it well before the wedding - not the night before
2 weeks before your wedding date
- Hold full wedding rehearsal
- Start packing for honeymoon
- Arrange for all hired items to be collected and dress to be delivered
- Confirm honeymoon arrangements. Give copy of your itinerary to a family member or friend
- Give a list of required family portraits & wedding day schedule to the Best man from your photographer
- Explain the role & what you expect from your Bridesmaids & Groomsmen, they are there to do a job not just look pretty
1 days before your WEDDING date
- Have a relaxing massage, manicure and pedicure
Your WEDDING day
- Relax and enjoy the day and make sure your Bridesmaids & Groomsmen do all the running around for you
6 weeks after your WEDDING date
- Contact your photographer to view your WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHYproofs
