Cheap photographer costs couple wedding photos

Just another in a series of what the professionals call "weekend warriors" destroying the happiness of a couple's wedding by taking their money and not turning up on the day.

This sadly is a growing problem. Cheap digital cameras. Websites created in an instant for pennies. All go to create a real problem for brides looking for genuine wedding photography.

As a long standing professional wedding photographer in Cardiff I have two pieces of advice.

FIRST. Get a qualified photographer. Are they MPA, SWPP or Bipp qualified? Simply go to one of the professional bodies and see for your self. Every member is included in the listings and you can search for a particular wedding photographer. The great thing is that only qualified wedding photographers appear on their listings.

Every qualified wedding photographer has had to pass a panel of experts to gain their qualifications as well as submit a business plan and a technical document on post production knowledge and techniques.

So if you do have a problem, you have a professional body to go to in the first instance. They also offer mediation services and photographic quality check to make sure you received the right standard of work.

Its not perfect, but its a hell of a lot better than sticking your finger in the air and hoping for the best.

SECOND. If its to good to be true, it generally is.

How many wedding photographer horror stories do you want me to tell you?

From wedding photographers who use album companies who supply demo wedding albums with top award winning wedding photography included in them being passed off as the photographers own work. You get all this for £500, yeah right. Wake up and smell the roses. If you look at wedding photographs and go WOW, trust me they are going to cost way more than £500. For that price you can expect… well… to say "I could have done that myself," and you'd be right!

We've had other photographers cut and paste images off our website and claim it to be their own work. We've seen wedding photographers get to the end of the day, take the card out the back of their camera, give it to the bride and walk off.

If you want seriously good wedding photography which you will cherish for a lifetime and will be a timeless record of your wedding day and is in its own right an artistic portrayal of the greatest day of your life. Then you have to make the right investment and the right amount of investment.

Think of it like this, you pay £1000 to £1500 for a dress you wear once. How much for artistic wedding photography you will look at for the rest of your life?
